👋 Nice to meet you
About W9PBR
A ham radio hobby site run by a licensed operator who loves the hobby and wants to share it.
The Story
Ham Radio Changed
How I See the World
I got my Technician license during Covid, mostly out of occupying my time. I tried to get my Novice license in the 1980s out of curiosity. I couldn't get past the morse code requirement. Within 3 months I got my General license. I upgraded to Extra class, built three antennas, and was talking to operators on every continent. Ham radio does that to you.
I have been learning morse code with Long Island CW Club for the last year. Its still a work in progress.
W9PBR started as a way to document what I was learning — a personal log that turned into a resource. If you're just getting started or you've been licensed for decades, there's something here for you.
The callsign is real. The opinions are honest. And the 73s are always genuine.

What This Site Is About
The W9PBR Mission
Community First
Ham radio is fundamentally about connecting with people. This site is a place where operators can share, learn, and say 73 to each other.
Real Education
Tutorials are written to actually teach, not just fill pages. If something is confusing, it needs to be rewritten.
Honest Reviews
No affiliate links, no manufacturer relationships. What you read is what an independent ham actually thinks of the gear.
